Brian Murphy (ice hockey)
Brian Murphy is a former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for several teams, including the Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, and Florida Panthers.
Murphy was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round, 49th overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Kings during the 2005-06 season. He was known as a stay-at-home defenseman with a physical style of play.
Throughout his NHL career, Murphy was frequently traded or signed as a free agent, reflecting a role as a depth defenseman who could provide stability and physicality. After his time in the NHL, he played in the American Hockey League (AHL) and briefly in Europe.
