Heidevolk

Heidevolk is a Dutch folk metal band formed in 2002 in Gelderland. Their music is characterized by its use of both clean vocals and harsh vocals, as well as incorporating elements of pagan metal and Viking metal. The band's lyrics are primarily written in Dutch and often draw inspiration from Germanic mythology, Gelderland's history, and nature.

History

Heidevolk was founded by six members who shared an interest in paganism, folklore, and metal music. They self-released their first demo, Schemerwoude, in 2003. They gained recognition within the folk metal scene with the release of their debut album, De Strijd Duurt Voort, in 2005. Over the years, they have released several more albums, consistently exploring themes of Germanic heritage and the landscapes of the Netherlands.

Musical Style and Influences

Heidevolk's musical style is a fusion of folk metal elements with aspects of pagan and Viking metal. They are known for their dual male vocalists, one performing clean vocals and the other performing harsh vocals, which creates a dynamic and contrasting sound. Their instrumentation includes traditional metal instruments such as guitars, bass, and drums, alongside folk instruments, which contribute to their distinctive sound. Their lyrical themes often revolve around historical battles, mythical creatures, and the connection to the land. Influences include bands such as Ensiferum, Finntroll, and early folk metal acts.
