Armor All

Armor All is a brand of protectant products designed to protect and beautify vehicle interiors and exteriors, as well as tires. The product line primarily focuses on protectants, cleaners, and waxes.

Originally formulated in 1962 by polymer chemist Joe Palcher, Armor All was intended for use on rubber, vinyl, and plastic components of automobiles to protect them from ultraviolet radiation and ozone degradation, as well as to restore their appearance. Palcher sold the rights to the formula to entrepreneur Alan Rypinski in 1966, who then marketed it under the name Armor All Protectant.

The primary function of Armor All protectant is to create a barrier against harmful elements like UV rays and oxidation, which can cause cracking, fading, and discoloration of surfaces. It also adds a glossy shine to treated surfaces, enhancing their aesthetic appeal.

The product line has expanded over the years to include a variety of specialized formulas, such as tire shines, glass cleaners, upholstery cleaners, and car washes. Armor All products are widely available in automotive supply stores, mass retailers, and online marketplaces.

Despite its popularity, Armor All has faced some criticism regarding its long-term effects on certain surfaces. Some have claimed that repeated use can lead to cracking or discoloration, although this is a subject of debate. Proper application and adherence to manufacturer instructions are generally recommended for optimal results and to minimize potential adverse effects.
