Aneirin (crater)
Aneirin is a small impact crater on Mercury. It is named after the Welsh poet Aneirin, who lived in the 6th century. The crater is located in the Shakespeare quadrangle, at approximately 39.3° N latitude and 352.5° W longitude.
Aneirin has a relatively simple bowl-shaped morphology, typical of small craters on Mercury. It has a diameter of approximately 41 kilometers. The crater's floor appears relatively smooth and featureless in available images. Its rim is well-defined, suggesting it is a relatively young feature. The crater is located within the Caloris Basin, a large impact basin on Mercury. Due to its location, material ejected from the Caloris impact likely contributed to the composition of the surrounding terrain, potentially including the material found within and around Aneirin.
