Edgar Chandler (minister)
Edgar Chandler (1903-1996) was an American Congregational minister, peace activist, and social justice advocate. He served as Executive Director of the Church Federation of Greater Los Angeles from 1946 to 1968, a period marked by significant social and political upheaval. In this role, he played a key role in interfaith dialogue and community organizing, addressing issues such as racial equality, poverty, and affordable housing. Chandler was a vocal supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, working closely with local and national leaders to promote desegregation and equal rights. He was also involved in efforts to improve labor conditions and promote peace during the Cold War and the Vietnam War. He is remembered for his commitment to social gospel principles and his dedication to building a more just and equitable society.
