Churchill (horse)
Churchill was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was named after the famous British statesman, Winston Churchill.
A bay colt foaled in 2014, Churchill was trained by Aidan O'Brien at Ballydoyle and owned by a Coolmore Stud partnership. He achieved considerable success as a two-year-old in 2016, winning several Group races including the National Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes, establishing himself as a leading contender for the following year's Classics. He was named European Champion Two-Year-Old Colt for 2016.
In 2017, Churchill won the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket and the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, completing the Guineas double. He was subsequently defeated in several later races, including the Epsom Derby and the Eclipse Stakes.
Following his racing career, Churchill was retired to stud. He stands as a stallion at Coolmore Stud and his progeny are now beginning their racing careers.
