Arthur Hutchinson (dentist)
Arthur Hutchinson was a British dentist who gained notoriety following his conviction for murder in 1984.
Hutchinson was found guilty of the brutal murders of three members of the Laitner family: Basil Laitner, his wife Avril, and their son Richard. The murders occurred on October 23, 1983, at the Laitner's home in Sheffield, England. The case attracted significant media attention due to the violence of the crime and Hutchinson's initial attempts to evade capture.
Following his conviction, Hutchinson escaped from custody in 1992 while attending a hospital appointment. He remained at large for several weeks, becoming one of Britain's most wanted fugitives. He was eventually recaptured in North Yorkshire.
Hutchinson maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings and during his imprisonment. He launched numerous appeals against his conviction, all of which were unsuccessful. He was ultimately returned to prison to serve his life sentence.
The case of Arthur Hutchinson remains a significant and controversial one in British criminal history, notable for the brutality of the crime, his escape from custody, and his continued claims of innocence. He died in prison in 2017.
