A44 motorway (Netherlands)
The A44 motorway is a Dutch motorway running between the A4 near Burgerveen and The Hague. It is a relatively short motorway, approximately 23 kilometers (14 miles) in length, and serves as an important link connecting Amsterdam and Leiden with The Hague and other cities in the Randstad region.
The A44 generally follows a north-south direction. North of Leiden, it is a 2x2 lane highway (two lanes in each direction), while south of Leiden, it mostly has 2x3 lanes.
The A44 is known for its scenic route, passing through the "Bollenstreek" (bulb region), famous for its tulip fields. Due to this, the motorway can experience increased traffic during the tulip blooming season in spring.
The motorway is maintained by Rijkswaterstaat, the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
