Wolseley (Manitoba electoral district)
Wolseley is a former provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was located in west-central Winnipeg.
The constituency was created in 1957, and existed until the 2019 Manitoba general election. It was named after Garnet Joseph Wolseley, 1st Viscount Wolseley, a British Army officer who led forces to suppress the Red River Rebellion in 1870.
Wolseley was generally regarded as a safe seat for the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Manitoba. The NDP held the seat for all but one term between 1969 and its dissolution.
Notable Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) for Wolseley include:
- Douglas Campbell (Progressive Conservative, 1958-1969)
- Sidney Green (NDP, 1969-1979)
- Mabel Elsey (NDP, 1979-1988)
- Harold Gilleshammer (NDP, 1988-1990)
- Marilyn Brick (NDP, 1990-2011)
- Rob Altemeyer (NDP, 2011-2019)
Following the 2018 redistribution, the Wolseley electoral district was dissolved, with its territory primarily becoming part of the new constituencies of Union Station and Fort Rouge.
