Buk Bak
Buk Bak was a Ghanaian hiplife musical group composed of Prince Bright (also known as Bling Sparkles) and Ronnie Coaches. Formed in the late 1990s, they were pioneers in the hiplife genre, which blends hip-hop with Ghanaian highlife music.
They gained significant popularity in Ghana and across Africa with their hit songs such as "Gonja Barracks," "I'm Going to Come," "Akwankwaa Hianaa," and "Klu Blofo." Their music often featured social commentary, catchy melodies, and a blend of Twi, Ga, and English languages.
The group experienced a hiatus when Prince Bright relocated to the United States. During this time, Ronnie Coaches pursued solo projects.
Tragically, Ronnie Coaches died on November 21, 2013, after suffering a heart attack, effectively ending the Buk Bak duo. Prince Bright has continued to perform and record music as a solo artist, sometimes using the Buk Bak name to honor his late partner.
Buk Bak's contribution to Ghanaian music is significant, and they are remembered as influential figures in the development of hiplife.
