Devol (Albania)

Devoll refers to both a river and a municipality located in southeastern Albania.

River: The Devoll River is one of the most significant rivers in Albania. It originates in the Devoll region, specifically in the Mali i Thatë mountain range, and flows in a generally northwest direction. It eventually joins with the Osum River near Kuçovë to form the Seman River, which then empties into the Adriatic Sea. The Devoll River is crucial for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation in the region. Its course passes through varied landscapes, including mountainous areas and fertile plains.

Municipality: The Municipality of Devoll is an administrative unit within the Korçë County. It was created in 2015 through the merger of the former municipalities of Bilisht, Hoçisht, Miras, Progër, and Qendër Bilisht. Bilisht serves as the administrative center of the municipality. The Devoll municipality is primarily an agricultural region, with significant production of grains, fruits, and vegetables. It also has potential for tourism, due to its natural beauty and proximity to Lake Prespa. The population is predominantly Albanian, with a mix of Orthodox Christian and Muslim communities. The economy is largely based on agriculture, small businesses, and some cross-border trade.
