1929 La Liga

The 1929 La Liga season was the inaugural season of the Spanish top-flight football league, officially known as the Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División. It began on February 10, 1929, and concluded on June 23, 1929. Ten teams participated in the first season: Arenas Club de Getxo, Athletic Bilbao, Athletic Madrid, Barcelona, Espanyol, Europa, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Racing de Santander, and Real Unión. Barcelona were crowned the first champions, finishing two points ahead of Real Madrid. The league format consisted of a double round-robin, where each team played every other team twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 18 matches per team. The champion was determined based on the total points earned, with two points awarded for a win and one point for a draw. There was no relegation in the inaugural season.
