James Murphy (Victorian politician)

James Murphy (birth date unknown – death date unknown) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

Murphy represented the electoral district of Ballarat West. He won the seat at a by-election on 23 November 1882, following the resignation of Peter Lalor. He held the seat until the general election of 1883, which took place in March of that year, where he was defeated. His political affiliation is generally considered to be Protectionist.
