Cebriones

Cebriones, in Greek mythology, was a Trojan warrior during the Trojan War. He served as the charioteer for Hector, the foremost Trojan hero. He was the illegitimate son of King Priam, making him a half-brother of Hector and other Trojan princes.

Cebriones is primarily known from Homer's Iliad, where his death is described in detail. While driving Hector's chariot during a particularly intense battle, Cebriones was struck by a large stone thrown by Patroclus, the companion of Achilles. The stone hit him in the forehead, shattering his skull and causing his eyes to fall out. The manner of his death, specifically the graphic detail, is often cited as an example of Homer's realistic and often brutal depiction of warfare.

After Cebriones's death, a fierce struggle ensued between the Greeks and Trojans for possession of his body, with both sides determined to strip the armor and claim the fallen warrior. This battle over his corpse further highlights the intense and personal nature of the conflict.

Though a relatively minor character compared to figures like Hector or Achilles, Cebriones's role as Hector's charioteer and the description of his gruesome demise contribute to the overall atmosphere and narrative structure of the Iliad.
