John Murtagh Macrossan (judge)

John Murtagh Macrossan (1930-2008) was an Australian judge who served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland from 1989 to 1998. Born in Brisbane, Queensland, he was educated at Downlands College and the University of Queensland. He was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1953 and took silk in 1969.

Macrossan had a distinguished career at the bar before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 1980. During his time on the court, he presided over numerous significant cases. As Chief Justice, he played a crucial role in modernizing the court's processes and administration. He retired from the court in 1998.

Beyond his judicial career, Macrossan was involved in various community and legal organizations. He was known for his intellectual rigor, his commitment to the rule of law, and his contributions to the Queensland legal system.
