Ryan McDonough (NBA executive)
Ryan McDonough is an American basketball executive. He is best known for his tenure as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns from 2013 to 2018.
McDonough began his NBA career as an intern with the Boston Celtics in 2003. He steadily rose through the ranks, holding various scouting and front office positions before being named assistant general manager in 2010. During his time with the Celtics, he was part of the team that constructed the 2008 NBA Championship-winning roster.
In May 2013, McDonough was hired as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns. During his time in Phoenix, he oversaw significant roster turnover and attempted to rebuild the team through draft picks and free agency. Notable draft selections during his tenure include Alex Len, T.J. Warren, Devin Booker, and Marquese Chriss. He also acquired players such as Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas.
McDonough was fired by the Suns in October 2018, shortly before the start of the NBA season. His tenure was marked by a lack of consistent on-court success. Since leaving the Suns, he has worked as a basketball analyst for ESPN and other media outlets.
