Safeway (Channel Islands)
Safeway (Channel Islands) was a supermarket chain operating in the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey. It was distinct from the UK mainland Safeway chain, although both were ultimately part of the same parent company, Argyll Group (later Safeway plc).
The Channel Islands division operated independently, maintaining its own supply chain and product selection tailored to the local market. This allowed for a greater focus on local produce and preferences compared to the larger UK operation.
In 1995, the Channel Islands Safeway stores were sold to CI Traders (now SandpiperCI). The stores were rebranded under the CI Traders' various retail brands, including Checkers Xpress and Food Hall. This marked the end of the Safeway brand's presence in the Channel Islands.
