Bill Hartley (politician)

William John Hartley (1931-2006) was an Australian politician and trade unionist. He was a prominent figure in the Victorian branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) during the 1970s and 1980s, known for his involvement in the Socialist Left faction.

Hartley served as the Victorian Secretary of the Federated Storemen and Packers Union. He was a key strategist and organiser within the ALP, wielding considerable influence over policy and pre-selections. His political philosophy was firmly rooted in socialist principles, advocating for nationalization, workers' rights, and opposition to foreign investment.
