Ōtemachi

Ōtemachi is a district located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It is a major business and financial center, home to the headquarters of numerous large corporations, banks, and news organizations. Ōtemachi is situated adjacent to the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station, making it a highly accessible and prestigious location.

Ōtemachi literally translates to "large gate town," referencing its historical role as the area in front of the main gate of Edo Castle (now the Imperial Palace). During the Edo period, the area was occupied by residences of high-ranking samurai. Following the Meiji Restoration, the area transitioned into a commercial and financial hub.

Today, Ōtemachi is characterized by its modern skyscrapers and extensive underground infrastructure, including subway lines and shopping arcades. It is a significant employment center, attracting commuters from all over the Greater Tokyo Area. Important landmarks include the Ōtemachi Financial City, the Tokyo Sankei Building, and various major hotel chains.
