FASTER (cable system)

FASTER is a trans-Pacific submarine telecommunications cable system connecting Japan to the United States. Built by a consortium of companies including Google, KDDI, Global Transit, China Mobile International, and Singtel, it significantly enhances internet bandwidth and reduces latency between Asia and North America.

The FASTER cable spans approximately 9,000 kilometers (5,592 miles). It utilizes a six-fiber-pair configuration, initially boasting a design capacity of 60 terabits per second (Tbps). Subsequent upgrades have further increased its capacity.

The system's landing points include locations in Japan (e.g., Chikura and Shima) and the United States (e.g., Oregon and California). These landing stations provide crucial links to terrestrial networks, distributing the high-speed bandwidth across a wider geographical area.

The FASTER cable plays a crucial role in supporting internet infrastructure, enabling faster data transfer for various applications such as cloud computing, streaming services, and online communication. Its deployment has significantly contributed to the growth of the digital economy in both Asia and North America by facilitating seamless connectivity.
