Voskhod (magazine)
Voskhod was a Russian-language magazine published in Saint Petersburg (then Petrograd, then Leningrad) in the early 20th century. It was a Jewish literary and political magazine that played a significant role in the Jewish intellectual and cultural life of Russia. The magazine served as a platform for Jewish writers, thinkers, and activists to discuss issues related to Jewish identity, culture, and political aspirations within the Russian Empire. Voskhod covered a wide range of topics, including literature, history, social issues, and current events. It reflected the diverse perspectives within the Jewish community, from assimilationist to Zionist viewpoints. Publication was interrupted and ceased completely during periods of political upheaval. The name "Voskhod" translates to "Sunrise" or "Ascent" in English.
