Cooliris
Cooliris was a 3D photo browsing application, initially a plugin for web browsers, later expanding to mobile platforms. It was known for its immersive, wall-like interface for viewing images from various sources including Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, Google Image Search, and local hard drives.
Initially released in 2006, Cooliris aimed to provide a more visually engaging and intuitive way to browse large collections of photos compared to traditional list-based or grid-based interfaces. The application rendered photos on a dynamically generated 3D wall, allowing users to smoothly scroll and zoom through their collections.
The browser plugin was compatible with major browsers like Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. It was eventually developed into standalone mobile applications for iOS and Android devices.
Cooliris was acquired by Yahoo! in 2011. Following the acquisition, the Cooliris application was eventually discontinued. The technology and talent from Cooliris were integrated into other Yahoo! products.
