Nils Lykke

Nils Lykke (born circa 1492, died 1535) was a Danish-Norwegian nobleman and military commander in the service of King Frederick I of Denmark and Norway. He is primarily known for his involvement in the turbulent political landscape of Scandinavia during the early 16th century, specifically his role in the Count's Feud (Grevens Fejde).

Lykke held positions of significant authority, including lensmann (a royal official administering a len, a type of fiefdom) of Bergenhus Fortress in Norway. His loyalty shifted during the Count's Feud, initially supporting Christian II, the deposed king. This put him in direct conflict with the forces loyal to Christian III, the newly elected king of Denmark and Norway.

His rebellion against Christian III proved unsuccessful. Lykke was eventually captured and imprisoned. He was subsequently executed in Copenhagen in 1535. His involvement in the Count's Feud cemented his place in Danish and Norwegian history as a figure representing resistance to the new regime and the complexities of the Scandinavian political landscape during a period of religious and political upheaval. The execution of Nils Lykke served as a warning to other potential opponents of Christian III's rule.
