Sill (river)
The Sill is a river in Austria and Italy. It is a tributary of the Inn River, and flows through the Austrian state of Tyrol and the Italian province of South Tyrol.
The Sill rises in the Stubai Alps, near the Brenner Pass. It flows northwards through the Wipptal valley, past the towns of Steinach am Brenner and Matrei am Brenner. It then enters the city of Innsbruck, where it is joined by its largest tributary, the Ruetz. North of Innsbruck, the Sill joins the Inn River.
The river is approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) long. Its drainage basin covers an area of about 850 square kilometers (330 square miles).
The Sill is an important source of hydroelectric power. Several power plants are located along its course. The river is also used for recreation, including fishing and kayaking.
