Deep Down (video game)
Deep Down was a free-to-play online role-playing game (RPG) in development by Capcom for the PlayStation 4. First announced at the PlayStation Meeting 2013, the game was set in a medieval fantasy world, but with a modern-day framing narrative. Players would take on the role of "Ravens," individuals who could read memories from ancient artifacts and relive them through the artifacts' corresponding dungeons.
The gameplay focused on cooperative dungeon crawling, with up to four players able to team up to explore procedurally generated dungeons. Combat involved melee weapons, magic, and utilizing the environment. A key mechanic was the concept of "emotions," which would influence both the player's abilities and the dungeon itself. Dungeons would be affected by the types of memories contained within the artifacts, creating varying challenges and enemy types.
Deep Down was built using Capcom's "Panta Rhei" engine. The game experienced multiple delays, and several beta tests were conducted. Despite this, Deep Down never officially launched. In 2019, Capcom officially filed for an extension on the trademark for Deep Down, which was granted, but the development status remained unclear. As of 2023, the game's development appears to be indefinitely suspended or canceled, with no further official updates from Capcom. The official website and social media accounts for the game are no longer active.
