Entelides

Entelides (plural; singular: Entelis) are, according to some interpretations of Neoplatonic metaphysics, a class of intermediary beings that help to animate and govern the lower levels of reality. They are typically considered to be subordinate to higher divine entities and are understood to be active in the physical world.

The concept of Entelides arises from attempts to bridge the gap between the transcendent realm of pure Forms (or Ideas) and the sensible, changing world. They are seen as acting as messengers or agents of the higher powers, embodying specific qualities and influencing particular domains of existence. They can be associated with natural phenomena, specific places, or even human activities.

The term itself is relatively obscure and may not be universally recognized across all Neoplatonic schools of thought. It is more commonly found in discussions of Iamblichus's philosophy, where the emphasis on mediating beings between the One and the material world is particularly strong. The nature and specific characteristics of Entelides are subject to debate and interpretation, depending on the particular philosophical framework within which they are being considered. They are related to other classes of intermediary beings, such as daimons, but possess a distinct role in the hierarchical structure of reality as understood by some Neoplatonists.
