George Oxenden (lawyer)

George Oxenden (born circa 1651, died 1703) was an English lawyer, Member of Parliament, and Judge of the Admiralty Court.

Oxenden was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1669 and called to the bar in 1676. He established a successful legal practice, becoming known for his expertise in civil law. He entered Parliament as a Member for Sandwich in 1689, serving until 1695. He was again elected for Dover in 1698, sitting until 1700.

In 1697, he was appointed Judge of the Admiralty Court, a position he held until his death. As Judge, he presided over cases related to maritime law, piracy, and prize disputes. He was also knighted in 1697.

Oxenden was a prominent figure in legal and political circles during his lifetime. His contributions to maritime law and his service in Parliament mark him as a significant figure in late 17th and early 18th century England.
