Debussy (horse)

Debussy (2003 – 2018) was a British-bred, Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2010 Epsom Derby. He was sired by Diesis out of the mare Shirley Valentine. Trained by John Gosden, Debussy began his racing career in 2005.

Despite being considered an outsider, Debussy won the prestigious Epsom Derby in a significant upset, ridden by jockey Martin Dwyer. It was Dwyer's second Derby win, and a notable achievement for the horse who had not previously demonstrated top-tier form.

Following his Derby victory, Debussy continued to race, but never quite reached the same heights. He competed in various Group races, including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, without securing another major win.

Debussy was retired from racing in 2012 and spent his retirement at stud. He died in 2018.
