Evening Attire (horse)

Evening Attire was an American Thoroughbred racehorse known for his durability and consistency, particularly in major stakes races in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Bred in New York, the gelding was foaled in 1996 and was owned and trained by Patrick Kelly for Thomas J. Walsh.

He was a late-developing runner, not achieving significant success until his four-year-old season. Evening Attire was noted for his ability to perform well on both dirt and turf surfaces. He often ran against, and occasionally defeated, some of the top horses of his era.

His most notable victories included multiple editions of the Saratoga Breeders' Cup Handicap (now known as the Evan Shipman Handicap) and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes. He competed in several Breeders' Cup races but did not win.

Evening Attire continued to race at a high level for several years, earning a reputation as a fan favorite due to his longevity and competitive spirit. He was retired from racing in 2008. His career demonstrated the enduring appeal of honest, hard-knocking racehorses.
