Ajaigarh

Ajaigarh is a town and a former princely state in present-day Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, India. The town is known for the Ajaigarh Fort, a hill fort perched atop a plateau in the Vindhya Range.

History:

Ajaigarh was the capital of the Ajaigarh State, one of the princely states of British India under the Bundelkhand Agency. The state was founded in the 18th century by Raja Guman Singh, a Bundela Rajput. The ruling family claimed descent from the Chhatarpur royal house. Ajaigarh State acceded to the Union of India in 1947.

Ajaigarh Fort:

The Ajaigarh Fort is the most prominent landmark of the region. Built by the Chandela rulers and later expanded by the Bundelas, it is situated on a flat-topped hill. The fort complex houses several ruins of temples and palaces. The ascent to the fort involves a steep climb and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
