Filleul (French, masculine noun)

A filleul is a male godchild. The term refers to the male individual who is sponsored and supported during baptism, typically within a Christian context, and who maintains a spiritual connection with their godparent(s). The relationship between filleul and parrain (godfather) is one of mutual responsibility and care, with the parrain traditionally guiding the filleul in religious and moral matters. This extends to a commitment to assist the filleul in times of need, especially in the event of the parents' death or incapacitation. While primarily a religious term, the relationship can also have a strong cultural and social significance, fostering a bond of familial-like affection and support. The feminine equivalent of filleul is filleule.
