Alexander Anderson (mathematician)

Alexander Anderson (1888-1974) was a Scottish mathematician known for his work in analysis, particularly in the areas of functional analysis and infinite series. He was educated at the University of Glasgow, where he also spent the majority of his academic career.

Anderson's research focused on summability methods, convergence criteria for infinite series and integrals, and the theory of linear operators in Hilbert spaces. He published extensively in leading mathematical journals of his time. While not widely known outside of specialist areas within analysis, his contributions provided valuable insights and generalizations to classical results. His work is characterized by its rigor and attention to detail.

His teaching at the University of Glasgow influenced several generations of mathematicians. He was recognized by his peers as a dedicated and insightful scholar, committed to the advancement of mathematical knowledge.
