Oechydrus

Oechydrus is an obsolete genus of aquatic beetles that once belonged to the family Dytiscidae, the predaceous diving beetles. The name is no longer in current scientific usage, as species formerly classified under Oechydrus have been reclassified into other, more accurately defined genera within the Dytiscidae family. Information regarding the species that were once included in Oechydrus can now be found under their currently accepted taxonomic names within genera such as Hydroporus and others. Studying historical taxonomic classifications, like the placement of species within Oechydrus, provides insight into the evolution of our understanding of insect phylogeny and the refining of taxonomic methods.
