George McGrath (jockey)
George McGrath was an Irish jockey active primarily in the mid-20th century. He is best known for winning the 1947 Grand National aboard Caughoo at odds of 100/1. This was McGrath's first ride in the Grand National. He was largely an unknown jockey at the time of the victory, and the win remains one of the most surprising upsets in the history of the famous steeplechase. Details regarding his racing career beyond this significant win are relatively scarce, contributing to the almost mythical status surrounding the victory. He also rode Caughoo to victory in the Ulster Grand National at Downpatrick.
