Laura Alonso (politician)

Laura Alonso (born April 2, 1968) is an Argentine politician affiliated with the Republican Proposal (PRO) party. She is known for her work in anti-corruption advocacy and her tenure in government.

Alonso served as a National Deputy (Member of the Chamber of Deputies) representing the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires from 2009 to 2015. During her time in Congress, she was a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability in government. She focused on issues such as combating corruption, promoting access to public information, and strengthening the independence of the judiciary.

In December 2015, upon assuming the presidency, Mauricio Macri appointed Alonso as the head of the Anti-Corruption Office (Oficina Anticorrupción - OA). In this role, she was responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption within the executive branch of the Argentine government. Her appointment was met with mixed reactions, with supporters praising her dedication to fighting corruption and critics raising concerns about potential political bias.

While leading the Anti-Corruption Office, Alonso oversaw investigations into various high-profile corruption cases involving government officials and private companies.
