Mary Nash (actress)

Mary Nash (August 15, 1884 – December 3, 1976) was an American actress.

Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Nash began her career on the stage, appearing in numerous Broadway productions, including "The Man Who Came to Dinner" and "Mrs. Warren's Profession." She was known for her strong portrayals of sophisticated and often acerbic characters.

Nash transitioned to film in the 1930s and quickly became a sought-after character actress. She appeared in over 40 films, often playing wealthy matriarchs, forbidding aunts, or villainous antagonists. Notable film roles include Miss Andrews in Little Women (1933), and as the strict headmistress, Miss Agatha Hannigan, in Annie (1936). Other film credits include Heidi (1937), The Philadelphia Story (1940), and Gold Diggers in Paris (1938).

Her career spanned both stage and screen, leaving a legacy of memorable performances in both mediums. She died in 1976 in Brentwood, California at the age of 92.
