Disney Channel (Romania)
Disney Channel (Romania) was a Romanian television channel owned by The Walt Disney Company Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA). It primarily broadcast animated and live-action programming aimed at children and teenagers, sourced from Disney Channel's global library, as well as some original local productions and acquisitions.
The channel launched in Romania on September 18, 2009, replacing Jetix Romania. Prior to this, Disney programming was available in Romania as a block on TVR 1.
Disney Channel (Romania) was available through various cable, satellite, and IPTV providers across the country. The channel’s programming schedule typically included a mix of animated series, sitcoms, and Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOMs).
On January 1, 2023, Disney Channel (Romania) ceased broadcasting. Its content migrated to the Disney+ streaming service, which launched in Romania in June 2022. The closure was part of a wider strategy by The Walt Disney Company to consolidate its linear television offerings and focus on its direct-to-consumer streaming platform.
The channel also operated companion websites and apps, offering online content and interactive experiences related to its programming. These platforms were also discontinued alongside the channel’s closure.
