Francisco Mejia (general)
Francisco Mejia was a Mexican general who served during the Mexican Revolution. He is best known for his role in the defense of the city of Ojinaga against Pancho Villa's forces in 1914. Mejia commanded the Federal garrison in Ojinaga, which was a strategic border town. Villa's forces, numbering in the thousands, besieged the city for several weeks. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Mejia's troops mounted a staunch defense, holding out until their supplies dwindled. Ultimately, the Federal forces were defeated, and Mejia was forced to retreat across the border into the United States with his remaining soldiers. His defense of Ojinaga, although ultimately unsuccessful, earned him a reputation for bravery and tenacity. After the battle, Mejia's career remained relatively obscure. Further details regarding his life, career trajectory after Ojinaga, and date of death are difficult to ascertain with common historical resources.
