Yu Hai
Yu Hai (于海), born April 18, 1942, died January 16, 2023, was a prominent Chinese martial artist (Wushu master), actor, and educator. He was known for his expertise in Mantis Fist (Tanglangquan) and his dedication to promoting traditional Chinese martial arts.
Yu Hai began his martial arts training at a young age and dedicated his life to its study and teaching. He founded the Shandong Wushu Team, which produced numerous national and international champions. His contributions to the preservation and popularization of traditional Wushu forms were significant.
As an actor, Yu Hai gained recognition for his roles in numerous martial arts films and television series. He often played the role of wise and skilled martial arts masters, showcasing his authentic Wushu skills and contributing to the portrayal of traditional Chinese culture on screen. Some of his notable film appearances include roles in "Shaolin Temple" (1982), "Shaolin Temple 2: Kids from Shaolin" (1984), "Martial Arts of Shaolin" (1986), and more recently, "Ip Man 4: The Finale" (2019). He also served as a martial arts choreographer and consultant for various productions.
Yu Hai's impact extended beyond performance and competition. He was a dedicated teacher, mentoring countless students and promoting the physical and mental benefits of Wushu. His legacy continues through his students and the widespread appreciation of Chinese martial arts.
