Akroyd, Dan (born 1952)
Dan Aykroyd (born Daniel Edward Aykroyd on July 1, 1952) is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, screenwriter, musician, and entrepreneur. He is best known as an original member of the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" on Saturday Night Live (1975-1979), and for his roles in comedy films such as The Blues Brothers (1980), Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequels, Trading Places (1983), Spies Like Us (1985), and Driving Miss Daisy (1989).
Aykroyd has received numerous awards and nominations, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for Saturday Night Live and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Driving Miss Daisy. He has also been inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.
Beyond acting, Aykroyd is the co-founder of House of Blues, a chain of music venues and restaurants. He is also the founder of Crystal Head Vodka, a vodka brand recognizable by its distinctive skull-shaped bottle. He has a strong interest in law enforcement and has served as a reserve commander for the police department in Harahan, Louisiana.
