Highway (2002 film)
Highway is a 2002 American black comedy crime film written and directed by James Cox. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jared Leto as Pilot and Jack, two drifters who flee Las Vegas after Jack accidentally kills a man.
The plot follows Pilot and Jack as they travel across the country to Seattle to help Pilot win back his girlfriend, Cassie (Selma Blair). Along the way, they encounter a variety of eccentric characters, including a drug dealer named Burt (John C. McGinley), a pair of lesbian hitchhikers (Katherine Moennig and Melanie Lynskey), and a trio of religious fanatics.
The film is known for its soundtrack, which features songs by artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Dandy Warhols, and Monster Magnet. Despite its cult following, Highway received largely negative reviews upon its release and was a box office failure. Critics generally cited the film's uneven tone and reliance on genre tropes as weaknesses. Some, however, praised Gyllenhaal and Leto's performances.
