Zwönitz (river)

The Zwönitz is a river in Saxony, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Chemnitz River. The Zwönitz rises in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) near Zwönitz (town) and flows generally northwards. It passes through towns such as Zwönitz, Thalheim/Erzgeb., and Auerbach before joining the Chemnitz in Chemnitz (city). The river's length is approximately 37 kilometers. The Zwönitz river basin is characterized by rolling hills and forests, reflecting the topography of the Ore Mountains. Historically, the river was important for industry, especially mining and textiles, with mills and factories located along its course.
