Wilsterau

The Wilsterau is a region in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is a low-lying marshland located along the northern bank of the Elbe River, west of Hamburg. The name "Wilsterau" derives from the town of Wilster, which historically served as the area's central hub and is the district's namesake.

The Wilsterau is characterized by its fertile soil, which is well-suited for agriculture, particularly dairy farming and fruit cultivation. The region's landscape is shaped by drainage ditches, canals, and dikes designed to protect it from flooding. Historically, the area was prone to inundation from the Elbe River and the North Sea, necessitating significant water management infrastructure.
