WAGR D class (1884)

The WAGR D class was a class of steam locomotives operated by the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) from 1884. These were 4-4-0 tender locomotives initially built by Dübs and Company in Glasgow, Scotland. They were among the earliest locomotives to operate on the WAGR's narrow gauge (3 ft 6 in or 1,067 mm) network.

The D class locomotives were primarily used for mixed traffic duties, handling both passenger and freight services on the developing railway lines of Western Australia. They were relatively small and light, suited to the lighter tracks and infrastructure of the time. Over the years, the class underwent some modifications and served various roles until their eventual withdrawal from service as larger and more powerful locomotives were introduced. The "D" designation itself indicates their classification within the WAGR's locomotive numbering and classification system.
