Tom Gilbert (ice hockey)
Tom Gilbert (born January 10, 1983) is a retired American professional ice hockey defenseman. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings, and Washington Capitals.
Gilbert was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 4th round (129th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He played college hockey for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he won a national championship in 2006.
Gilbert signed with the Edmonton Oilers in 2006 and made his NHL debut during the 2007-08 season. He was known for his offensive abilities from the blue line and his strong skating. He spent parts of five seasons with the Oilers before being traded to the Minnesota Wild in 2012.
After brief stints with the Panthers and Canadiens, Gilbert was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 2016. He later signed with the Washington Capitals for the 2016-17 season. Following his NHL career, Gilbert played overseas.
