Tom Coyne (music engineer)

Tom Coyne (born December 9, 1954, died April 18, 2017) was an American mastering engineer. He was widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the field of music mastering, known for his work across a wide variety of genres including hip-hop, rock, pop, and R&B.

Coyne began his career at Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs in New York City in the late 1970s. He later worked at Hit Factory Mastering and eventually moved to Sterling Sound in 1998, where he remained until his death.

Throughout his career, Coyne mastered or co-mastered albums for numerous prominent artists, including Adele, Beyoncé, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Usher, Sam Smith, and many others. He was recognized for his attention to detail and his ability to enhance the sonic qualities of a recording while maintaining the artist's original vision.

Coyne received several Grammy Awards for his work, including Album of the Year for Adele's 21 and Taylor Swift's 1989. He was highly respected by artists, producers, and fellow engineers for his expertise and collaborative approach.
