The Grapes of Wrath (band)
The Grapes of Wrath were a Canadian alternative rock band, formed in Kelowna, British Columbia in 1983. The core members consisted of Kevin Kane (vocals, guitar), Tom Hooper (vocals, guitar), and Chris Hooper (drums). Vincent Jones (keyboards) joined later.
The band achieved considerable success in Canada during the late 1980s and early 1990s with their melodic, jangle-pop sound, often drawing comparisons to bands like R.E.M. and The Byrds. Key elements of their sound included intricate guitar arrangements, strong harmonies, and introspective lyrics.
Their breakthrough album, Now and Again, released in 1989, featured the singles "Peace of Mind" and "Backward Town," which achieved significant radio airplay and cemented their place in the Canadian music scene. Other notable albums included Treehouse (1987) and These Days (1991).
The Grapes of Wrath disbanded in 1992, citing creative differences and internal tensions. The original lineup reunited in 2010 and have since released new music and toured. Their influence on Canadian alternative rock music is widely acknowledged, and their earlier work remains popular with fans.
