Ō guruma
Ō guruma (大車) is a Japanese term that translates literally to "large wheel" or "big wheel". In the context of budō, particularly in judo, it refers to a major hip throw technique (腰技, koshi-waza).
The technique involves disrupting the opponent's balance and utilizing a large circular motion, as if pushing a large wheel. The thrower (tori) typically wraps an arm around the opponent's (uke's) back and uses their hip as a fulcrum to lift and throw the opponent forward and over the hip.
Ō guruma is classified as one of the 40 original throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It is a relatively high-impact throw and requires careful execution to avoid injury to both the tori and uke. Proper kuzushi (breaking balance) is crucial for a successful Ō guruma.
