Sedgeford

Sedgeford is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-east of Hunstanton, 35 miles (56 km) north-west of Norwich, and 12 miles (19 km) north-east of King's Lynn.

Geography and Demographics:

Sedgeford covers an area of approximately 7.15 square kilometres (2.76 sq mi) and is situated in a predominantly rural agricultural landscape. According to the 2011 Census, the parish had a population of 634. The village lies on the Peddars Way, a Roman road now a long-distance footpath.

History:

Sedgeford has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Neolithic period. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Secheforda". Archaeological excavations in Sedgeford, particularly the Sedgeford Historical and Archaeological Research Project (SHARP), have uncovered significant evidence of Anglo-Saxon and medieval occupation. This includes a large Anglo-Saxon cemetery and a substantial medieval manor house.
