Lennox Island (Prince Edward Island)
Lennox Island is a Mi'kmaq First Nation community located on an island of the same name in Malpeque Bay, off the north shore of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Lennox Island is the main reserve of the Lennox Island First Nation.
The island is culturally significant as the home of the Mi'kmaq people for thousands of years. European contact and subsequent colonization significantly impacted the community, including land loss and cultural suppression.
Today, the Lennox Island First Nation operates its own government, providing services to its members including education, health care, and social services. The community is actively involved in economic development, including tourism, aquaculture, and renewable energy projects. The Mi'kmaq culture and language are being actively preserved and promoted.
